American Horror Story: 1984

FX has unveiled another totally ’80s poster for ‘American Horror Story: 1984’.  As was revealed in the first trailer for the new season, the masked knife-wielding killer in this season is called Mr. Jingles, and he can be seen in the new image hiding under a bed, while an unsuspecting victim is standing nearby.

The new poster was shared via Twitter, with the caption “Should’ve called the top bunk.”

The trailer showed that Mr. Jingles was a patient at a nearby mental health facility who escapes just as the staff and campers arrive for summer fun at Camp Redwood.  The cast of ‘AHS: 1984’ includes Cody Fern, Leslie Grossman, DeRon Horton, Gus Kenworthy, Billie LourdJohn Carroll Lynch, Matthew Morrison, Emma Roberts, Angelica Ross, and Zach Villa.  Fern, Grossman, Lourd, Lynch, and Roberts are veterans of previous seasons of ‘AHS’, while the others are newcomers.  Morrison previously worked with ‘AHS’ creator Ryan Murphy on ‘Glee’, whole Ross is a vet of Murphy’s current FX hit ‘Pose’.

The new poster is part of a series of images that emulate the style of movie posters of the ’80s.  (That’s some shiny red lipgloss!)  This time setting, plus the camp scenario pays tribute to slasher flicks of the era, like ‘Friday the 13th’, ‘Sleepaway Camp’, and ‘Halloween’.

‘American Horror Story: Cult’ deviated from the norm by not including any supernatural elements.  It looks quite possible that ‘1984’ will also exclude these elements, but we’ll have to wait and see.

‘American Horror Story: 1984’ slashes its way onto FX on September 18.
