Jared Leto as the Joker

Don’t expect to see Jared Leto’s Joker back in ‘The Suicide Squad‘.  When director James Gunn didn’t come right out and say that The Joker isn’t in his reboot/sequel, when a fan on Instagram asked him how he could justify making a ‘Suicide Squad’ movie without The Joker, Gunn replied:

“No one but me and a few others know all the characters in the movie, but if the Joker isn’t in the film, I don’t think it would be strange as he isn’t a part of the Suicide Squad in the comics.”

In fact, he wasn’t part of the Suicide Squad in David Ayer’s first movie.  He only appeared in the movie for about ten minutes, mostly as part of Harley Quinn’s backstory.  In all honesty, Harley Quinn isn’t a “classic” Suicide Squad member either.  She joined in 2011, during DC Comics’ New 52 reboot, and that’s already been wiped out with more recent reboots.  To put it bluntly, Gunn can justify making a ‘Suicide Squad’ movie without The Joker, because The Joker has nothing to do with the Suicide Squad.

Besides, Gunn released a list of the cast of ‘The Suicide Squad’ and that alone consisted of 24 people.  Of course, Gunn also cautioned “Don’t get too attached,” indicating that some of them won’t make it to the end of the movie.  Here’s who we know are starring:

Idris Elba is playing a major role, which is believed to be Bronze Tiger.  Storm Reid is playing his daughter.  John Cena is rumored to be playing the Peacemaker, and Peter Capaldi is believed to be the film’s villain.

The cast also includes Juan Diego Botto, Alice Braga, Joaquín Cosío, Tinashe Kajese, Julio Ruiz, and Taika Waititi.

Are you upset that Jared Leto won’t be in it?

‘The Suicide Squad’ is scheduled to hit theaters on August 6, 2021.
