The Suicide Squad

James Gunn appears to have announced the cast of ‘The Suicide Squad’ via social media, with the caption: “Don’t Get Too Attached.”  They are called the Suicide Squad after all.

The returning cast from David Ayer’s 2016 ‘Suicide Squad’ are Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.

New cast member that had already been announced are David Dastmalchian as the Polka Dot Man, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher, Steve Agee as the voice of King Shark, Idris Elba in an unknown role, Storm Reid as his daughter, and Flula Borg and Peter Capaldi in undisclosed roles.

John Cena, Nathan Fillion, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, and Michael Rooker had been rumored to be in talks, but had not been confirmed.  In fact, Rooker has outright denied that he was going to be in ‘The Suicide Squad.

Among the new names is Sean Gunn, James’ brother, who played Kraglin and did the motion capture performance of Rocket in the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and ‘Avengers’ movies.  His inclusion should come as no surprise.

Other new names are Joaquín Cosío, Mayling Ng, Juan Diego Botto, Alice Braga, Tinashe Kajese, Julio Ruiz, and Jennifer Holland.

Check out Gunn’s message below:

Mexican actor Cosío stars on ‘Las Buchonas de Tierra Blanca’ and was recently seen as Ernesto ‘Don Neto’ Fonseca Carrillo on ‘Narcos: Mexico’.  He provided the voice for The Scorpion in ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’.  He will be seen in the upcoming ‘Rambo: Last Blood’.

Ng was one of the Amazons in ‘Wonder Woman’, and most recently starred in ‘The Scorpion King: Book of Souls’.

Argentinian actor Botto has mainly worked in Spanish-language projects, most recently the series ‘Instinto’, as well as ‘Pulsaciones’ (‘Lifelines’).  He recently starred in the TNT series ‘Good Behaviour’.

Braga, who originally hails from Brazil, starred as Dr. Cecilia Reyes in the ‘New Mutants’ movie that… probably won’t ever see the light of day.  She stars as Teresa Mendoza on the acclaimed ‘Queen of the South’, and her prior credits include ‘Elysium’ and ‘I Am Legend’.  She is currently filming the miniseries ‘We Are Who We Are’.

Kajese has mostly worked on TV, having appeared on ‘The Inspectors’, ‘Valor’, and ‘Greenleaf’, as well as the TV movie ‘The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks’.

Ruiz has appeared on the shows ‘S.W.A.T.’, ‘Preacher’, ‘Vice Principals’, and ‘Zoo’.

Holland starred as Ms. Espenschied in ‘Brightburn’, a film that Gunn produced.  She co-starred on CMT’s ‘Sun Records’ and has also appeared on ‘Rush Hour’, ‘Perception’, ‘The Glades’, and ‘American Horror Story: Asylum’.

No clue as to who any of them are playing, but it does seem that there are a few that are native Spanish speakers, so that could offer some clue as to the movie’s setting.

Gunn’s comment, “Don’t Get Too Attached,” is curious, but I believe that this is the cast list, and he is simply hinting that some of their characters will get killed.  I don’t believe he means, “Don’t get attached to this being the actual cast,” meaning that some of them are just rumors and he is set to debunk them.  I mainly think this because of the newest names added to the list, as most of them aren’t very well-known, so no one was really speculating that they would be in ‘The Suicide Squad’.

What do you think of this cast?  Any surprises?
