Jai Courtney Shares How James Gunn's 'The Suicide Squad' Will Be "Tonally Different" From The Original

We already know that when James Gunn makes a film that it takes on a life of its own and we wouldn’t expect anything less from his involvement with ‘The Suicide Squad.’ Without giving any details, Jai Courtney who is reprising his role as Boomerang in the upcoming film has confirmed that will be the case. In fact, he goes so far to call the film “tonally different” from the original. That being said, he doesn’t throw original director Davie Ayer under the bus and stresses that he would love to work with the director again in the future.

We’ve all heard that interference by Warner Bros. is the leading cause as to why we ended up getting the ‘Suicide Squad’ that we did and not the one Ayer had initially envisioned for the film.

As to Gunn’s take, Courtney shares:

“I don’t think it’s going to be weird. It’s kind of funny that we’re getting it up to go again and there’s a bunch of new people and a bunch of old people, too. It’s going to be different, for sure, but I think everyone’s welcoming that challenge and welcoming the new energy in.”

“I loved working with David, I’d work with David again in a heartbeat. But Gunn, too, is quite prolific and really, obviously, does know what he’s doing. I’m excited to see what he brings to it. It’s going to be tonally different but very cool as well. The world has evolved from where we were at, at that point; he’s going to have his own take on it, and it’s going to be great.”

Anyone in a superhero movie would likely love to work with Gunn after what he was able to create with ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ To be honest, this is a DC film that many diehard Marvel fans will likely give a shot to just for what the director can put into his movies. With Gunn also warning us to not “get too attached” to these characters, it sounds like not all of them are going to be making either. Probably far fewer than the original film.
