The Falcon And The Winter Soldier - US Agent concept art
Disney+/Marvel Studios

Marvel Studios is bringing a lot of new characters to the small screen via Disney+, but they aren’t all getting their own shows like Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, and She-Hulk.  Some will be introduced as secondary characters on other shows, and that includes the U.S. Agent, who will be portrayed by Wyatt Russell on ‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’, and now that that show is ramping up to begin filming, the first concept art of Russell in uniform has surfaced.

The picture seems saturated in blue, so it may not come across as accurate to how it will look on the show.  In the comics, U.S. Agent’s costume is mainly black, with white and red, although he started out wearing Cap’s classic uniform.

It’s not quite clear what role this character will play on the show.  In the comics, John Walker was enlisted by the U.S. government to replace Steve Rogers during a dispute.  Of course, in the MCU, it looks as though most of the population thinks Rogers is dead, even though he is just retired following the passing of his wife Peggy Carter.

At the very least, it’s safe to assume that Russell’s John Walker is likely the government’s pick to replace Rogers, even though he personally selected Sam Wilson/The Falcon (Anthony Mackie) to replace him.  But they wouldn’t know that.

Russell starred on AMC’s ‘Lodge 49’ as Sean “Dud” Dudley.  He recently wrapped Showtime’s miniseries ‘The Good Lord Bird’, co-starring Daveed Diggs, which will be released on February 16, 2020.  He also appeared in the horror movie ‘Overlord’, the Netflix movie ‘Shimmer Lake’, and the ‘Black Mirror’ episode, “Playtest.”

Malcolm Spellman (‘Empire’) created ‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’ for Disney+.  Mackie stars alongside Sebastian Stan as James “Bucky” Barnes/The Winter Soldier, Daniel Brühl as Baron Zemo, and Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter.

Reportedly, Russell’s U.S. Agent and VanCamp’s Sharon Carter will also appear on ‘WandaVision’, another Disney+ show set within the MCU.  That show is confirmed to also welcome back Kat Dennings as the ‘Thor’ movies’ Darcy Lewis, Randall Park as ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’s Jimmy Woo, and Teyonah Parris as the adult version of ‘Captain Marvel’s Monica Rambeau, known in the comics as the superhero Spectrum.

In addition to Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, and She-Hulk, it’s very possible that the U.S. Agent and Spectrum could shift over to the movies, and play larger roles as the MCU moves forward.

‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’ should arrive on Disney+ in late 2020, with ‘WandaVision’ set to premiere in early 2021.  How is this new expanded Marvel Universe shaping up in your opinion?
