CBS All Access is embracing the humor in “Star Trek” with the animated series ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ and star Jack Quaid (‘The Boys’,’The Hunger Games’) is opening up about his experience doing voice acting for it. The show will follow one of the most “least-important ships” in Starfleet with Quaid playing Ensign Brad Boimler. The actor is calling the upcoming series “hilarious and surprisingly sweet,” which shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise for fans.
Humor should be expected with ‘Rick and Morty’ writer Mike McMahan having created the show, but it is great to hear that the cast has enjoyed what they’ve been creating!

Quaid was asked about the series during an interview for his work on the upcoming third season of ‘Harvey Girls Forever’ and shared:
“That’s been amazing too. We’re in the middle of recording that now. To get to be a part of that world, in any way, is so cool. That show is just, it’s very different from Harvey Girls. It’s way more adult, but it’s so hilarious and surprisingly sweet and very Trek. Fans of Star Trek will get little inferences and things that we sprinkled throughout the show, but also, I think it’s very accessible for people who don’t know a ton of lore as well. It’s just like a fun show in space.”
While ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ isn’t the animated “Star Trek” show for children that is in development, it is also good that this should appeal to more casual audiences who are looking for humor with a sci-fi twist.

As to how ‘Harvey Girls Forever!’ prepared him for the role in “Star Trek,” the actor also let on:
“Oh my God. It just gave me all the tools, or a lot of tools, to bring into the booth with me. One thing I think that is so different to me than regular acting, there are things… regular acting, that sounds awful. Voice acting is so different to me than on-screen acting. Because it’s a lot of, I don’t think people realize… I think people sometimes think you go into a room, and you just, you know, you do a voice, and that’s it. But it has, there’s so much more to it that the cast of Harvey Girls Forever! – and one of the showrunners, Brendan Hay – taught me that I brought into every voice project I’ve done since. And man, I credit Harvey Girls Forever! for just any skill I have as a voiceover actor. I’d give it to Harvey Girls Forever!. They are incredible.”
Joining Quaid’s voice in the series will be Eugene Cordero as Ensign Rutherford, Dawnn Lewis as Captain Freeman, Tawny Newsome as Ensign Mariner, Jerry O’Connell as Commander Ransom, Fred Tatasciore as Lt. Shaxs, Gillian Vigman as Dr. T’Ana, and Noël Wells as Ensign Tendi. This one sounds like a show that will be fun for hardcore Trekkies and casual science fiction humor viewers alike and one that we’ll have our eyes out for!
