It seems the people are big fans of ‘Avengers: Endgame’. Who knew? In all honesty, it should come as no surprise that the #1 movie of all time took home the People’s Choice Award, the prize that is voted on by the people. The mega-Marvel mashup won Movie of 2019 and Action Movie of 2019. Robert Downey was on hand to take home the Male Movie Star of 2019 award.
Tom Holland took home Action Movie Star for ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’, while Zendaya won Female Movie Star. She also took home Drama TV Star for her HBO series ‘Euphoria’.
It may be called the “People’s Choice Awards” but perhaps a better name would be the “YOUNG People’s Choice,” as most of the winners skewed decidedly in the teen direction. ‘Riverdale’ star Cole Sprouse won Drama Movie Star of 2019 (for the relative dud ‘Five Feet Apart’), beating the likes of Taron Egerton, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Samuel L. Jackson, and joked that their day would come. Sprouse also won Male TV Star of 2019 for ‘Riverdale’, besting Kit Harington, Norman Reedus, Finn Wolfhard, Jim Parsons, Milo Ventimiglia, Sterling K. Brown, and his co-star KJ Apa.
Similarly, heartthrob Noah Centineo took home Comedy Movie Star (for Netflix’s ‘The Perfect Date’). The rising star had to use a crutch to get onstage, as he appeared he had suffered an injury. No, he didn’t injure himself starring as He-Man in the ‘Masters of the Universe’ movie. ET reports that he injured himself playing basketball with friends and had to undergo knee-replacement surgery! It seems like that would have to complicate the idea of his starring as He-Man, but no announcement has been made regarding that, so stay tuned.
In news of other injuries, Kevin Hart was given a standing ovation for his win for Comedy Act of 2019, after being hurt in a car accident earlier this year.
On the TV side of things, ‘Stranger Things’ pretty much swept, winning Show of 2019, Drama Show of 2019, and Female TV Star of 2019 for Millie Bobbie Brown. Cult-favorite time travel romance series ‘Outlander’ won Bingeworthy Show, while ‘Shadowhunters’ took home Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show for its last season.
