While ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ was met with mostly mixed reviews, the sequel starring The Rock as a Real American Hero did well enough to warrant a sequel. Shortly after the film’s opening weekend, we learned that ‘G.I. Joe 3’ would be going into production. Then, about a month ago, director Jon M. Chu announced that a writer would be attached shortly so that the ball would finally get rolling on the project. Now, that writer has finally been revealed.

Evan Daugherty will be tasked with penning the next ‘G.I. Joe’ movie for Paramount. The screenwriter is responsible for the terrible atrocity that was ‘Snow White and the Huntsman,’ but since then he’s done some better work on the upcoming adaptation of ‘Divergent’ starring Shailene Woodley and the controversial reboot of ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ from Michael Bay and Jonathan Liebesman. With such big projects under his belt as of late, it’s no wonder that he was picked up for this movie. After all, everyone has off days once in a while, so it’s possible that Daugherty’s bad day was manifested in Universal’s reimagining of Snow White starring Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, and Charlize Theron.

Currently, no release date is set for ‘G.I. Joe 3’, but stars like Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson are expected to return. So, as we wait for more details to emerge about the upcoming film, what do you think about Evan Daugherty being tapped to write the script? Do you think he’ll revert to the horrible character development and major plot holes of ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ or are you optimistic that it wasn’t a fluke that he got the gigs on ‘Divergent’ or ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’?
