Milo Ventimiglia might have already played a superhero of sorts in ‘Heroes’, but the actor was told by Warner Brothers that he was too old to play Batman.  When it was revealed that Matt Reeves‘ ‘The Batman’ would feature a younger Dark Knight, necessitating a recasting after Ben Affleck had played the role in ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’, ‘Justice League’, and ‘Suicide Squad’, Ventimiglia threw his name out for consideration, but at 42, he was told he had passed the expiration date for this reboot.

In an interview with The Big Ticket podcast, the actor revealed:

“Do I see myself in a cape and cowl?   Warner Brothers didn’t.  They said, ‘Ventimiglia, you’re too old.’”

Instead, the role went to 33-year-old Robert Pattinson.  That’s okay.  Ventimiglia added:

“It’s okay. It doesn’t matter.  By the way, I’m kind of busy.”

Ventimiglia has been nominated for an Emmy for his role on the hit show ‘This Is Us’ and he stars in the new movie ‘The Art of Racing in the Rain’, out now in theaters.

Besides, Ventimiglia always seemed like a better fit for Nightwing.  Of course, at this point, he’s probably too old for that part as well.

Pattinson is the only actor cast for ‘The Batman’, although the film is reported to include Two-Face, Catwoman, Firefly, The Mad Hatter, The Penguin, and The Riddler, with the latter purported to be the film’s main antagonist.  Alfred and Commissioner Gordon will appear, and there is even talk that the film will include Robin.  ‘Hobbs & Shaw’s Vanessa Kirby is among the names being considered for Catwoman.  Andy Serkis‘ name has also surfaced, although it wasn’t in reference to a specific character, although The Penguin would make sense.

‘The Batman’ is expected to begin filming this fall.  It will be released on June 25, 2021.
