Vanessa Kirby
Universal Pictures

Two weeks ago, a rumor surfaced that Vanessa Kirby, star of the upcoming ‘Fast and Furious presents: Hobbs & Shaw’, was being considered to star as Catwoman in Matt Reeves’ upcoming ‘The Batman’.  It was a very informal situation, as hers was just a name that had been floated.  She was not believed to have met with Warner Bros. or anything firm.

If you’re a fan of Kirby and the thought of her playing Catwoman, there’s a bit of bad news.  She states, “I don’t know anything about it.”  But she did add:

“Are you kidding?! I would love to be Catwoman. Oh my god, it would be a dream… Oh my god, are you kidding? I have to do lots of squats.  I mean, literally, lots of squats.”

These are the same sentiments shared by nearly every female in Hollywood, however.  Vanessa Hudgens has been lobbying for the role on social media.  Meanwhile, fans have been pushing for Kristen Stewart to land the role, so that she can once again act opposite her ‘Twilight’ co-star and ex-boyfriend Robert Pattinson, who is portraying Batman/Bruce Wayne in the film.  Catwoman is one of the most famous comic book characters ever, so it’s no wonder that actors are “catfighting” to play her.

Hudgens had action roles in ‘Grindhouse’ and ‘Sucker Punch’, and is an experienced dancer, which would come in handy.  Stewart impressed people with her butt-kicking in the trailer for the new ‘Charlie’s Angels’ film.

As for Kirby, expect to see her showing off her fighting skills in ‘Hobbs & Shaw’.

“I just never thought in a million years I would be an action girl because I’m just not naturally like that at all.  But yeah, there is something about this particularly that made me– I really felt like it was such a good opportunity to take care of this female character in this massively male world and to make sure, every day, we made sure in every area, she was a capable fighter. That she had all the best fights… That she was never saved by the guys… And I hope it instills some kind of change.”

Who would you like to see play Catwoman in ‘The Batman’?

‘Hobbs & Shaw’ opens on August 2.
