Lynda Carter
Warner Bros.

Following the TCA press conference presentation for ‘Arrow’s final season, executive producer Marc Guggenheim shot down rumors that Lynda Carter would reprise the role of Wonder Woman during the upcoming ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ crossover event between all of The CW’s Arrowverse shows.  This scoop was released by “illegitimate outlet” (Guggenheim’s words not ours!) Cosmic Book News, who announced that Carter and ‘Smallville’s Tom Welling were going to appear in the crossover, which wouldn’t seem out of the question, considering that Burt Ward from the 1960s ‘Batman’ series IS going to be in it, along with Kevin Conroy, the longtime Batman voice actor, who will play a future version of Bruce Wayne.

Speaking to Deadline, Guggenheim specifically addressed the Carter rumor, confirming that discussions had taken place, but it doesn’t appear that things worked out.  He then added:

“I don’t ever comment on casting, but it always vexes me if an illegitimate outlet just makes up stuff.”

Presumably, that goes for Welling as well.

The CW

Carter has appeared on ‘Supergirl’ as former President of the United States, Olivia Marsdin, who was secretly a shape-shifting alien.  Her last appearance on that show was last fall’s episode “Fallout.”

While ‘Smallville’s Superman may be out, Brandon Routh, who plays The Atom/Ray Palmer on “Legends of Tomorrow’ will also play the ‘Kingdom Come’ version of Superman, in a callback to his portrayal of the Man of Steel in the movie ‘Superman Returns’.  Tyler Hoechlin will also appear as the present-day Superman.

Obviously, ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ features the stars of ‘Arrow’, ‘The Flash’, ‘Supergirl’, ‘Legends’, and the freshman series ‘Batwoman’, but also part of the event are LaMonica Garrett, as both The Monitor and his evil duplicate The Anti-Monitor; Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane; Jon Cryer as Lex Luthor; and newcomer Meaghan Rath as a female version of Brainiac-5.  Cress Williams from ‘Black Lightning’ will also appear, for the first time establishing a connection between that series and the other CW DC Comics shows.

‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ will air on Sunday, Dec. 8th episode of ‘Supergirl’ at 8 pm EST (special time), Monday, Dec. 9th on ‘Batwoman’ (special night), and Tuesday, Dec. 10 on ‘The Flash’.  It will conclude on ‘Arrow’ on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 8pm (special time), ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 9 pm (special episode).
