Burt Ward is the latest name to be added to the events of this fall’s ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ crossover event between The CW’s ‘Arrow’, ‘The Flash’, ‘Supergirl’, ‘Batwoman’, and ‘Legends of Tomorrow’.  ‘Batwoman’ executive producer Caroline Dries, announced:

“We’ve got a ton, a ton, a ton of characters coming into the five-part event.  Burt Ward will be making an appearance.”

It was announced that Brandon Routh, who plays Ray Palmer/The Atom will suit up as the ‘Kingdom Come’ Superman, as a nod to Routh’s depiction of the Man of Steel in 2006’s ‘Superman Returns’.  Tyler Hoechlin will also appear as the present-day Superman.

Presumably, Ward’s appearance will be on the ‘Batwoman’ episode of the crossover, but it’s unclear how Batman and his mythology fit into the Arrowverse.  It wasn’t until last year’s ‘Elseworlds’ crossover that we even knew that Batman and Gotham City were actually a part of this world.  (Okay, there had been a few references here and there…)  Is there a Robin?  Could Ward be playing a Dick Grayson from the future?  Or will he just appear as a completely different character?

From 1966-68, Ward played Robin the Boy Wonder opposite Adam West’s Batman on the hit series ‘Batman’.  Both also starred in a theatrical ‘Batman’ movie in 1966, and lent their voices to two recent animated movies, ‘Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders’ and ‘Batman Vs. Two-Face’.  (West passed away in 2017.)

Ward joins a long list of Arrowverse guest-stars drawn from past DC adaptations.  Most, but not all, have appeared on ‘Supergirl’.  Kara (Melissa Benoist)’s adopted Earth parents were played by Helen Slater, the Supergirl from the 1984 movie, and Dean Cain, Superman on ‘Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman’.  His ‘Lois’, Teri Hatcher, appeared as the villain Rhea.  Kara’s Kryptonian mother, Alura Zor-El was played by Erica Durance, the Lois Lane on ‘Smallville’, while her co-star Laura Vandervoort, who played Kara (Supergirl) on ‘Smallville’ appeared as the villain Indigo.  M’yrnn J’Onzz, the father of J’Onn J’Onzz, was played by Carl Lumbly, who voiced J’Onn J’Onzz on the animated ‘Justice League’ and ‘Justice League Unlimited’.  The ’70s ‘Wonder Woman’, Lynda Carter appeared as President Marsdin.  Lex Luthor is played by Jon Cryer, who depicted Luthor’s nephew Lenny in 1987’s ‘Superman IV: The Quest for Peace’.  John Wesley Shipp who starred as Barry Allen/The Flash on the 1990 series, has appeared multiple times on ‘The Flash’, as the new Barry’s father Henry Allen, as well as Jay Garrick, the Earth-3 Flash, and most meta, as The Flash from the 1990 series (Earth-90)!

The ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ crossover kicks off in December.  The first three installments will air then, with the final two airing in January, after the shows go on winter hiatus.
