RUMOR ALERT: Take this with a grain of salt, as it is just RUMOR at this point.
I’d heard this rumor a while ago, but it was so off-the-wall, and completely unsubstantiated that I didn’t report it, but here it comes again. Now I’m starting to think it’s the truth. It appears that Nathan Fillion’s role in James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’ is that of Arm-Fall-Off-Boy.
Charles Murphy, who is known for reliable scoops, tweeted:
Recent The Weekly Planet Podcast dropped a scoop about some roles in Suicide Squad. While I can’t confirm the identity of Elba’s character, I can confirm that Fillion is playing Arm-Fall-Off-Boy and the rest of the other non-lead roles discussed in the scoop. Good work, guys!

It is believed that ‘The Suicide Squad’ will live up to its name, as a bunch of cast members are likely to get killed off, and Gunn is loading his flick up with some of the oddest and most obscure villains he could get his hands on.

Arm-Fall-Off-Boy appeared in 1989’s ‘Secret Origins’ Vol. 2 #46 and was depicted as the first applicant to join the Legion of Superheroes in the 30th Century. He was also their first rejection.
Murphy also revealed that Sean Gunn will portray Weasel:
Weasel is a minor Firestorm villain who was killed by Rick Flag during a Suicide Squad mission.
Michael Rooker is portraying Savant:
Savant was a mentally-disturbed genius who started off as a would-be vigilante but ran afoul of the Birds of Prey. In the New 52, he was meant to join the Suicide Squad, but during the torturous initiation, he cracked and was seemingly executed.
Pete Davidson will portray Blackguard:
Blackguard is a Booster Gold villain, who– yep– joined the Suicide Squad and was decapitated during a mission.
Flula Borg is portraying Javelin:
Javelin was a Green Lantern enemy, who was killed THREE times in association with the Suicide Squad. First, as a member during the ‘War of the Gods’ crossover, he was impaled by one of his own javelins by the sorceress Circe. Then he somehow turned up alive again, attempting to kill SS member Deadshot, who caused one of his exploding javelins to blow up and kill Javelin AGAIN! Then he turned up alive AGAIN, and during a mission with the Squad, the group was betrayed by the Tattooed Man, and Javelin was hit by a car, killing him for the third time. (He somehow turned up alive again in the ‘Justice League: Cry for Justice’ miniseries, but he didn’t die that time.)
Finally, Mayling Ng is playing Mongal:
Alien powerhouse Mongal is the only character so far that has no connection to the Suicide Squad in the comics. She is the sister of the cosmic conqueror Mongul and was a minor Superman villain until her own brother decapitated her.

These characters are so ridiculous that it sounds unlikely that they’d be used in a film, except for the fact that James Gunn is directing and he loves obscure characters and the fact that this is ‘The Suicide Squad’ and they probably won’t make it through the movie alive. In fact, it wouldn’t be surprising if they were all killed very early, requiring other characters to be recruited to replace them.
‘The Suicide Squad’ also stars Steve Agee (the voice of King Shark), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), David Dastmalchian (Polka Dot Man), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), Daniela Melchior (Ratcatcher), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), plus Juan Diego Botto, Alice Braga, Peter Capaldi, John Cena, Joaquín Cosío, Idris Elba, Tinashe Kajese, Storm Reid, Julio Ruiz, and Taika Waititi.
‘The Suicide Squad’ is scheduled to hit theaters on August 6, 2021.
