It is being reported that Jonah Hill is in talks to play a villain in Matt Reeves’ DC Comics movie ‘The Batman’.  It was just revealed that ‘Westworld’s Jeffrey Wright is also in negotiations to join the film as Commissioner James Gordon.  Hill’s role hasn’t been confirmed, but the script allegedly includes CatwomanFireflyThe Mad HatterThe Penguin, The Riddler, and Two-Face.  Not to stereotype, but if I had to guess, I would say he’s probably being eyed to play Catwoman.  Just kidding, The Penguin.

It is known that not all of the villains will have major roles, with The Riddler serving as the movie’s main antagonist.  But that is just according to reports at this time.

Deadline states that Hill has not yet signed on the dotted line, so the deal isn’t official yet.  Once that happens, Hill will be facing off against Robert Pattinson as the newest big-screen Batman.  Reeves (‘War for the Planet of the Apes’) wrote the screenplay and is directing.

Unfortunately, this casting is sure to cause an uproar, as Hill is best known for his raunchy and/or dopey comedies, like ‘Superbad’, ‘This is the End’, ‘Get Him to the Greek’, and the ’21 Jump Street’ movies.  But in his defense, he has also co-starred in some very well-respected films like ‘Moneyball’, ‘Django Unchained’, ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’, and ‘Hail, Caesar!’.  Heck, he was nominated for the Academy Awards for ‘Moneyball’ and ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’!  He also received acclaim for his role in Netflix’s recent series ‘Maniac!’.

Plus he has some DC experience, having provided the voice of Green Lantern/Hal Jordan in the ‘LEGO’ movies.

But his casting, at least to me, falls a little too close to that of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, and as terrible as nearly everything about ‘Batman V Superman’ was, that was by and far the worst.  Maybe it’s because Hill and Eisenberg got famous around the same time, but this (potential) casting reminds me of that.  But I also don’t like to pass too much judgment in advance, so if Hill gets cast as anyone, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Stay tuned for details as they emerge, but what do you think about Jonah Hill playing a villain in ‘The Batman’?
