Despite jockeying for the role on social media, it doesn’t look as though Josh Gad will play The Penguin in Matt Reeves‘ reboot ‘The Batman’.  Sadly, Gad returned to social media– Twitter to be exact– to lay to rest any talk of his embodying the famous umbrella-slinging DC supervillain.

Now we just have to speculate.  Did Gad actually meet with Reeves or any Warner Brothers execs?  Was he rejected, or did his idea of The Penguin not jibe with theirs?

WB and Reeves have not officially confirmed which villains will be in ‘The Batman’, but it has long been rumored that WB (for whatever reason) really wanted to use The Penguin, a.k.a. Oswald Cobblepot, in one of its films.  A casting list was recently uncovered, which indicated that ‘The Batman’ would not only feature The Penguin, but Catwoman, The Riddler, Firefly, Two-Face, and The Mad Hatter.

Not all bad guys will have large roles.  It’s actually believed that The Riddler will be the main antagonist and that the others will have smaller roles, possibly even minor bit parts.

Don’t cry for Gad.  He’s already stinking rich from voicing Olaf the snowman in ‘Frozen’ and will be heard again this year in ‘Frozen 2’.  He also lent his voice to ‘A Dog’s Journey’ and the upcoming ‘The Angry Birds Movie 2’.  He will appear in the flesh in Disney’s upcoming ‘Artemis Fowl’, and is rumored to also be headlining another Disney project, a reboot of ‘Honey, I Shrunk the Kids’.  He is currently filming the comedy ‘Snow Ponies’, will appear in HBO’s sci-fi comedy series ‘Avenue 5’ and will star in and produce another comedy for Netflix, ‘Super-Normal’.

Robert Pattinson will portray Bruce Wayne/Batman in ‘The Batman’.  Filming is expected to begin later this year to be released on June 25, 2021.
