The latest bit of ‘The Suicide Squad’ casting is pitch-perfect. German actor, DJ, and comedian Flula Borg, who appeared in the 2015 film ‘Pitch Perfect 2’ has reportedly joined the cast of James Gunn’s comic book reboot film in an undisclosed role, who is believed only to be a romantic interest for one of the main characters. The cast currently includes Idris Elba in an undisclosed role, but that may be Bronze Tiger, Storm Reid as his daughter, Jai Courtney (as Captain Boomerang), David Dastmalchian (Polka-Dot Man), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), Daniela Melchior (Ratcatcher), and Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn). John Cena is reportedly in talks but his casting has not been confirmed. He may be playing The Peacemaker. Benicio del Toro‘s name has also popped up in connection with this project, but nothing has been confirmed.
Borg was recently seen on the STARZ series ‘Counterpart’ and he has also popped up on ‘The Good Place’ and ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’. He works extensively as a voice actor in projects such as ‘Ralph Breaks the Internet’ (as Maybe), ‘Ferdinand’, and ‘Tangled: The Series’. He will next be seen in the TV series ‘Green Beret’s Guide to Surviving the Apocalypse’, the movies ‘She’s in Portland’, and ‘Judy Small’, and his voice will be heard in ‘Trolls World Tour’.
‘The Suicide Squad’ is a follow-up to the 2016 film ‘Suicide Squad’, which was directed by David Ayer. Gunn signed on to helm this picture, which may– or may not– be a reboot of the franchise, as opposed to a direct sequel. He will reportedly begin filming later this year, although the picture isn’t due to hit theaters until 2021. Gunn penned the screenplay himself. In addition to the characters mentioned, the script also reportedly includes the character King Shark. Gunn will complete this film for Warner Brothers before returning to Marvel Studios to direct ‘Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3’.
‘The Suicide Squad’ is due in theaters on August 6, 2021.
