Cristin Milioti will headline the new dark comedy series ‘Made For Love’ on WarnerMedia’s upcoming HBO Max streaming service.  The series is based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Alissa Nutting.  Patrick Somerville (Netflix’s ‘Maniac’, HBO’s ‘The Leftovers’) will act as showrunner.  S.J. Clarkson (the untitled ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel) will direct and executive produce.  ‘Made For Love’ was ordered straight-to-series, and the first season will consist of 10 half-hour episodes.

Milioti stars as Hazel Green, a woman who has run away from her tech mogul husband, Byron Gogol, CEO of Gogol Industries.  She has spent over a decade in virtual quarantine, “her every movement and vital sign tracked.”  But after Byron suggests they connect themselves through “brain chips,” that is the last straw and Hazel flees and winds up in “a world populated with a whole host of deviant oddballs.”  She moved in with her elderly father in a trailer park full of senior citizens.  It just so happens that her father’s trailer is shared with Diane, “his extremely lifelike sex doll.”

Hazel soon discovers that Byron has already implanted her with “the Made for Love chip – in her brain, allowing him to track her, watch her and know her thoughts and feelings as she tries to stay alive.”

From the book’s description:

“As Hazel tries to carve out a new life for herself in this uncharted territory, Byron is using the most sophisticated tools at his disposal to find her and bring her home. His threats become more and more sinister, and Hazel is forced to take drastic measures in order to find a home of her own and free herself from Byron’s virtual clutches once and for all. Perceptive and compulsively readable, Made for Love is at once an absurd, raunchy comedy and a dazzling, profound meditation marriage, monogamy, and family.”

Milioti co-starred as Tracy McConnell on the last season of ‘How I Met Your Mother’.  After that starred in the one-season NBC sitcom ‘A to Z’, the second season of ‘Fargo’, ‘The Mindy Project’, and most recently the second season of the CBS All Access comedy ‘No Activity’.  She portrayed Nanette Cole in the Emmy-winning ‘Black Mirror’ episode “USS Caillister.”  She will be seen this fall on the Amazon Prime Video romantic anthology series ‘Modern Love’ and in the comedy film ‘Palm Springs’.
