X-Men Franchise Needs A Break

Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige has already teased that mutants are in the works for the Marvel Cinematic Universe but not everyone is thrilled at the idea. In fact, ‘Avengers: Endgame‘ co-writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely both feel that the X-Men could use an extended break before they are introduced into the MCU.

This detail came up at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, where the McFeely stated:

“I think X-Men should rest a second. I could be wrong, but I think they should rest.”

The pair don’t dislike the “X-Men” either, and previously Markus had been asked which characters that Marvel was regaining the rights to would most interest him:

“I mean, I’d love to try some different things with these new characters they’re getting from Fox. I’ve always thought, ‘Yeah, you could make Cyclops into a real hero, as opposed to a kind of punching bag.’ And there is a few others, deep canon, who I wouldn’t mind rolling out.”

This is news that fans of Cyclops would be thrilled to read if the pair were working on an X-Men movie. Outside of the first outing with Scott Summers we’ve never really been given a strong version of the character, and even in that one, he didn’t come across as being that likable.

While we do know that mutants are being introduced into the MCU, likely in Phase 5, we don’t know which ones or if the X-Men will even be included. Details have been sparse, as you would expect from Marvel Studios, and it wouldn’t be hard to imagine mutantkind being introduced before Professor X’s team goes public or is even formed.

Do you think that Marvel Studios should hold off on the X-Men before introducing mutants into the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Would you want a more heroic version of Cyclops to be introduced in a Marvel Studios film? Share your thoughts in the comments below, True Believers!
