Ruby Rose as Batwoman
Carlos Serrao for EW

At the ‘Batwoman’ SDCC panel, the show’s executive producers have announced that the fledgling hero (Ruby Rose) will be facing Batman’s Rogue’s Gallery as she rises up to take the Dark Knight’s place after he mysteriously vanishes.  And among them will be a somewhat newer addition, Hush.  Tommy Elliot was the villain at the center of the storyline, also called ‘Hush’, written by Jeph Loeb and illustrated by Jim Lee.  He was a childhood friend of Bruce Wayne’s but who went psychotic after being abused by his father.  He also hated his mother, whom he perceived as weak for not protecting him.

Coincidentally, the ‘Hush’ comic book story was adapted into an animated movie, which made its world premiere at SDCC.  Geoffrey Arend provided the voice of Hush in that movie, as well as that of his closest conspirator The Riddler.  The movie is now available on digital and will be released on DVD, Blu-Ray, and 4K Ultra HD on August 9.

The pilot episode of ‘Batwoman’ pits the new hero against Alice (Rachel Skarsten), a Joker-esque villain inspired by the children’s novel ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’.

Being a relatively new character, Batwoman doesn’t have much of a Rogue’s Gallery, so much like ‘Supergirl’, it seems as though the producers and writers of her show will be pulling from her male counterpart’s mythos.  With ‘Gotham’ off the air, ‘Batwoman’ has a full roster of supporting characters and villains to pull from.  Hopefully, they come up with fresh ideas for them.

‘Batwoman’ also stars Meagan Tandy as security agent (and love interest) Sophie Moore; Camrus Johnson as WayneTech’s Luke Fox; Nicole Kang as Kate’s stepsister Mary Hamilton; Dougray Scott as Kate’s father Jacob Kane; Elizabeth Anweis as Jacob’s wife and Kate’s stepmother Catherine Hamilton-Kane.

Catch ‘Batwoman’ when it premieres on Sunday, October 6 at 8 pm ET, on The CW!
