Batwoman

Meagan Tandy, Camrus Johnson and Nicole Kang have joined the cast of the pilot for ‘Batwoman’.  The pilot hails from Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television and will hopefully lead to an ongoing series on The CW.  Ruby Rose made her debut as Batwoman/Kate Kane during the ‘Elseworlds’ crossover in December, popping up in episodes of ‘Arrow’, ‘The Flash’ and ‘Supergirl’.  If ‘Batwoman’ is picked up, it will be the first superhero show with an openly gay lead hero.  David Nutter (‘Game of Thrones’, ‘The Flash’) is directing, with a script by Caroline Dries (‘The Vampire Diaries’, ‘Arrow’).

Meagan Tandy, who recently appeared on The CW’s ‘Charmed’ as Summer, will portray Sophie Moore on ‘Batwoman’.  Sophie is a graduate of military academy who uses her combat skills to become a highly effective private security agent.  “Despite her bite and regimented outlook, Sophie has a soft side, illuminated by Kate Kane’s return.”

Prior to ‘Batwoman’, Tandy had regular roles on ‘Jane by Design’, ‘Teen Wolf’, ‘UnREAL’, and ‘Survivor’s Remorse’.  She will appear in the upcoming comedy film ‘The Trap’, opposite Queen Latifah and T.I.

Camrus Johnson starred on the Hulu series ‘There’s… Johnny!’.  He has also appeared on ‘The OA’, ‘Luke Cage’, and ‘Chicago PD’ as well as in the TV movie ‘Paterno’.

On ‘Batwoman’, he will play popular supporting character Luke Fox, the son of Batman’s confidante Lucius Fox.  In the comics, Luke adopts the armored identity of Batwing, so it’s very possible that Johnson’s version will as well, since it wouldn’t be a CW superhero show without a black armored sidekick.

Batman, and therefore Bruce Wayne, will be absent on ‘Batwoman’, so in Wayne’s absence, Luke strives to keep Wayne Enterprises safe.  It sounds as though he may have an issue with Kate adopting the symbol of the Bat at first.

Nicole Kang will portray Mary Hamilton, Kate’s step-sister and her polar opposite.  She is described as “excitable, talkative, and an influencer-in-the-making… what Mary lacks in a filter, she makes up for with her compassion for Gotham’s underserved communities, proving she has more in common with Kate than she thinks.”

Kang can be seen in the recent controversial Netflix series ‘You’ as Lynn Lieser and will appear in the upcoming seasons of ‘Orange is the New Black’ and ‘The Code’.  (Of course, ‘OitNB’ was the series that gave Ruby Rose her big break.)  She is also currently filming the short ‘Jack and Jane’, which she wrote, is directing, producing and in which she stars.

Stay tuned for more ‘Batwoman’ news as it surfaces.
