Holy Batnews! Looks like Warner Bros has made a decision on the next actor to don the moniker of The Dark Knight and it is famed ‘Twilight’ actor Robert Pattinson. The news comes from Deadline and is confirmed by The Wrap who each state that a source close to the studio have told them. Warner Bros is expected to make the official announcement soon.

Pattinson beats out Nicholas Hoult who was also on the top of the short list to play the Caped Crusader.

According to reports, Reeves really wanted to cast Pattinson from the get-go, but the studio wasn’t fully on board as they saw Hoult as someone who could also handle the role. Both actors screen tested yesterday, and Pattinson was able to convince Warner Bros that he is the man for the job.

All that is left is the formality of signing on the dotted line and for the studio to announce his casting.

As usual with superhero franchise films, the role will not be a one and done deal. Word has it that along with taking the role, the studio will want the option to have Pattinson to star in 2 more Batman movies – that is, if moviegoers find him as fitting as Bruce Wayne as Reeves and the studios do and the first movie rakes in the cash at the box office. Considering that Pattinson has a strong fan base, it’s not too inconceivable that this will happen.

Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ is said to focus on Bruce Wayne/Batman in his early crimefighting years which is why they went with a younger actor. Whether or not Reeves’ film will be connected in any way to Ben Affleck’s Batman is unknown, but earlier in the year, Reeves’ gave a little hint as to what the tone of his Batfilm will be:

“It’s very much a point of view driven, noir Batman tale. It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I’d love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it’s going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation.”

As to who the Caped Crusader will be up against in the film, rumor has it that ‘The Batman’ will feature three major villains with others appearing in supporting/background roles. Vanessa Hudgens has gone on record saying she would love to play Catwoman while Twihard fans are pushing for a ‘Twilight’ reunion and are lobbying Kristen Stewart for the role.

Now that Pattinson has been cast, expect more news about ‘The Batman’ to be released!

‘The Batman” is currently set to hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
