Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson

It’s been years since anyone has even used the term “Twihard,” but it seems that the fandom has been reactivated with the announcement that star Robert Pattinson, who played sparkily vampire Edward Cullen, was on the verge of being signed to play Batman/Bruce Wayne in Warner Brothers’ DC film universe, beginning with Matt Reeve’s ‘The Batman’.  Pattinson hasn’t done many mainstream movies since his ‘Twilight’ days and has done zero big-budget tentpole pictures, so this is a huge step, and it’s one that Twihards want to see him take with his former leading lady, both onscreen and off, Kristen Stewart.

Yes, it was recently rumored that ‘The Batman’ would include a number of Bat-Villains, possibly as many as six, and among them were Catwoman and The Penguin.  This news has inspired fans to lobby for Stewart, who played Bella Swan in ‘Twilight’, to land the Catwoman role opposite Pattinson’s Batman.

In fact, even comic book writer/artist Tim Seeley even chimed in with his support:

As did critic, novelist, and screenwriter C. Robert Cargill:

Here are a few more endorsements:

Stewart has appeared in a number of films, some more successful than others, including ‘Adventureland’, ‘The Runaways’, ‘Snow White and the Huntsman‘, ‘American Ultra’, and ‘Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk’.  She stars in what is hoped will become a major new franchise, ‘Charlie’s Angels’, out in November.

Who’s Ready For Tea?

True, Stewart and Pattinson dated in real life, during their time working on the ‘Twilight’ movies, but what some may have forgotten is that it ended badly, after Stewart cheated on Pattinson with her married ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ director Rupert Sanders.  Even though she and Pattinson briefly reconciled, they eventually split for good and ever since, she has exclusively dated women.  It’s doubtful that there would still be a spark between RPatz and KStew.  (Remember when they were called that?)  And that’s the key to the Batman and Catwoman dynamic.

Sadly, it doesn’t sound like she has a shot in hell of landing the Catwoman gig in ‘The Batman’.  According to Hollywood Life, a Warner Brothers insider said:

“It’s cute that fans are lobbying for Kristen to be Catwoman in ‘The Batman’, but it likely won’t happen.  It’s not because they dislike her; they would just like the film to have its own identity, and not be linked to Twilight.”

And finally, just to be clear, Pattinson has not been officially cast!  So this whole train of thought could be moot.  Additionally, the information that Catwoman will be in the film is also just a RUMOR at this time.  Still… it’s a cute idea.  I’m not mad at it.

What would you think of ‘The Batman’ serving as an unofficial fifth ‘Twilight’ movie?
