Ezra Miller as The Flash

In a Pride Month write-up on Variety, it is indicated that Ezra Miller is still expected to star in a solo ‘The Flash’ movie for Warner Brothers.  You may recall that Miller’s holding contract for this movie was due to expire at the end of May.  Unless WB re-signed him, he would no longer be attached.  It would appear that a new contract was quietly signed behind-the-scenes.  (Ray Fisher’s contract to play Cyborg was also due to expire at the same time, but there is no news about that.)

According to Variety, Miller will begin filming ‘The Flash’ once he finishes the third ‘Fantastic Beasts’ movie, also for WB.  In March it was reported that Miller had begun revising the script for ‘The Flash’, alongside comic book writer Grant Morrison, and that their script would be darker in tone than the previous draft.

John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’) were attached to direct last March, but it is not known if they are still planning to do so.  Following on the heels of the reports of Miller revising the ‘Flash’ script, it was announced that Daley and Goldstein had been tapped to direct an original horror-comedy ‘The Creeps’ for Universal.  It’s entirely possible that they can complete this picture in time to make ‘The Flash’, considering that ‘Fantastic Beasts 3’ hasn’t begun filming, and isn’t due out until late 2021.

Though ‘Aquaman’ and ‘Shazam!’ were super successful thanks to their lighter tones, WB isn’t abandoning the idea of darker DC movies, as ‘Birds of Prey’ is confirmed to be Rated-R, as is ‘Joker’, however that is not connected to the overall shared universe.

We’ll have to wait and see how ‘The Flash’ will turn out.

Are you glad that a ‘Flash’ movie is still in the works and that Ezra Miller will star?  Would you prefer a lighter or darker approach?
