2017’s release of ’47 Meters Down’ did well enough in its theatrical run and was able to develop a large enough of a cult following to have Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures give us a sequel. The trailer is officially out and gives us a new take on the story from the first. The movie stars John Corbett (‘Sex and the City’), Nia Long (‘Empire’), Sophie Nelisse, Corinne Foxx, Sistine Stallone, Brianne Tju, Davi Santos, Khylin Rhambo, and Brec Bassinger.

Johannes Roberts sat in the director’s chair and co-wrote the script with Ernest Riera. These two were also responsible for creating and writing the original film which starred Mandy Moore.

The official synopsis shares that:

The film follows the story of four teen girls diving in a ruined underwater city, who quickly find themselves in a watery hell as their fun outing turns into heart-stopping fear when they learn they are not alone in the submerged caves. As they swim deeper into the claustrophobic labyrinth of caves they enter the territory of the deadliest shark species in the ocean.

I mean, it is a shark horror film, and while some of them can really amp up the tension, we also end up getting something like ‘Meg’ for a quality film. The trailer here doesn’t make it look horrible, but I’m not entirely sold on how fun it will end up being to watch on the big screen.

Are you planning to check out ’47 Meters Down: Uncaged’ when it is released or do you think the film is primed to bomb and sleep with the fishes? What did you think of the trailer for the film? Do you feel that shark horror films have been overdone or is there still room for them? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

’47 Meters Down: Uncaged’ will be swimming into your local theater on August 16th, 2019!
