Booster Gold

The good news is that the script for ‘Booster Gold’ is complete and has been turned in.  Further, Greg Berlanti, who plans to direct and produce the film, is happy with it.  The bad news is, that it doesn’t seem that anyone knows what’s going on with Warner Brothers’ DC Comics-based movies.

Zack Stentz, who previously penned ‘X-Men: First Class’, the first ‘Thor’, and episodes of ‘The Flash’, appeared on the Fanboys podcast, and stated:

“I do not know what’s going on with it right now, honestly. And I don’t know if the DC people know what’s going on with it. Their strategy seems to change depending on how […] most recent movie did. But I can tell you that a script has been turned in that the director and producer, Greg Berlanti, has proclaimed himself to be very happy with. And it’s something that’s ready to go, but DC and Warner Bros. would need to give the greenlight to it. The ball is in their court.”

Following the success of ‘Aquaman’ and ‘Shazam!’, two pictures that were embraced and praised because of their lighthearted nature, ‘Booster Gold’ would seem to be a natural fit.  After all, who wouldn’t want to watch the exploits of a guy from the future, who steals a bunch of tech and travels to the present in order to become a superhero with the sole purpose of becoming rich and famous?

But it’s possible that Warner Brothers wants to try for some darker projects again.  ‘Joker’, which isn’t connected to its other DC films, will arrive in October and is expected to be rated-R.  ‘Birds of Prey’ has wrapped and may also be rated-R.  And while ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ certainly won’t be, it also won’t be a complete romp in the way that ‘Shazam!’ and (to a lesser degree) ‘Aquaman’ were.

There are plans for sequels to ‘Aquaman’ and ‘Shazam!’, plus a horror excursion ‘The Trench’, but beyond that, the only other DC movie that looks to be in the works is ‘The Batman’.

Should DC take a chance on the lesser-known ‘Booster Gold’?
