SPOILER ALERT: If you are behind on watching your favorite CW superhero shows, you may want to proceed with caution as there are SPOILERS for the season finales of ‘Arrow’ and ‘The Flash’ below.
This fall’s “Crisis On Infinite Earths” crossover on The CW will be the biggest yet, incorporating five shows– ‘Arrow’, ‘The Flash’, ‘Supergirl’, ‘Legends of Tomorrow’, and ‘Batwoman’. The first crossover, in 2014, was between the only two CW DC shows that existed at the time, ‘Arrow’ and ‘The Flash’. The situation was the same the following year, but the 2015 crossover “Heroes Join Forces,” introduced characters that would go on to star on ‘Legends of Tomorrow’. Things really exploded in 2016, with “Invasion!,” which not only crossed over between ‘Arrow’, ‘The Flash’, and newcomer ‘Legends of Tomorrow’, but also added new import ‘Supergirl’, which migrated over from CBS. The action didn’t let up with 2017’s ‘Crisis on Earth-X’, which also included all four shows, but while last year’s “Elseworlds” incorporated Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman (in a limited capacity) and new character, Batwoman played by Ruby Rose, ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ was left out.

With ‘Batwoman’ joining The CW’s lineup in the fall, it will now be part of the huge “Crisis on Infinite Earths” along with ‘Legends’, which will not debut in the fall, as usual, but is being held for mid-season. Therein may lie a twist. It is reported that this five-hour event will “air over two quarters.” If I’m interpreting that correctly, it sounds like some episodes will air in December before the annual winter hiatus, with the rest of the story wrapping up when the shows return in mid-January. That COULD mean– and this is just a guess– that part of the crossover will include the final episode of ‘Arrow’ which will only have ten episodes in its eighth and last season, and the season premiere of ‘Legends’. It’s also very likely that ‘Legends’ will take over ‘Arrow’s timeslot, which will be Tuesday nights at 9 pm, starting in the fall.
The season finale of ‘The Flash’ revealed that Barry Allen would vanish during a crisis in 2019, while the ‘Arrow’ season finale had Oliver being recruited by Monitor (LaMonica Garrett), to save the multiverse from an upcoming crisis. If you’ve read the comics, you know this was not a great thing for Barry Allen, as he died a few issues after “vanishing.”
This fall, ‘Batwoman’ will air on Sunday nights at 8 pm EST, and will lead into ‘Supergirl’ at 9. ‘The Flash’ will stay on Tuesday nights at 8 pm, with ‘Arrow’ following at 9. As stated, it’s very likely that ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ will take over ‘Arrow’s timeslot after it ends.
