Grudge Match: Tyler Hoechlin Wants To Fight Jon Cryer's Lex Luthor on 'Supergirl'

One of the best parts of ‘Supergirl’ this season was watching as the show introduced Jon Cryer’s version of Lex Luthor into the Arrowverse, a role which the man dove headfirst into and has been delivering a version of the iconic villain far superior to almost any other depiction in recent years (yes, I am talking about the last few ‘Superman’ movies). Of course, the only thing lacking is a direct confrontation with his arch-nemesis, Superman (played by Tyler Hoechlin in the series), who was last seen taking Lois Lane to Argo for her pregnancy, with both figuring it was the safest place for her to be with her “super” child.

Of course, this left Supergirl as Lex’s target, though he has not been shy about reminding everyone that his original grudge is with the Man of Steel, even dropping the phrase “Superman made me do it” during the flashback to his trial before his imprisonment. Seeing Lex and Superman fight on the series would be a dream come true for many of the fans, who have long wished to see more of the iconic DC characters on the network, despite the executive order not to use characters currently in the DCEU.

While speaking at Fan Expo Dallas recently, Hoechlin stated:

“I mean, I feel like it’d be ridiculous not to hope to go up against Lex Luthor. So that would be awesome, that would be so cool working with Jon, who I’ve met briefly once or twice. That would be a lot of fun. So in other words, I think it would be a blast to do that. That’s one of the, obviously, the greatest rivalries in storytelling. So it would be very fun.”

Of course, even getting Lex Luthor at all was a real treat, and whether or not we ever get that Superman Vs Lex fight in future seasons will be entirely up to the Arrowverse producers and the DC top brass. Even a flashback with the two of them engaged in combat would be worthwhile I think, because how they are going to manage to work Superman back into the story now that he has a family to protect (and potentially a new life on Argo) is anyone’s guess.

However, I doubt that the ‘Elseworlds’ crossover will be the last we see of the Man of Steel, especially not with a big CRISIS looming, so we may yet get that Lex and Superman fight next season after all.

Let us know your thoughts on Jon Cryer’s Lex Luthor, and whether or not you would like to see a Superman Vs. Lex fight in the ‘Arrowverse’ someday soon in the comments below!
