Supergirl Kevin Smith

Kevin Smith is a very busy man. In addition to writing and directing his own movies like ‘Clerks 3’, ‘Mallrats 2’, and ‘Moose Jaws’, the filmmaker has a full schedule of weekly podcasts and speaking engagements around the world, including his most recent tour ahead of the release of his latest film, ‘Yoga Hosers’. He also landed a new late-night talk show on AMC called ‘Geeking Out’ and is developing a new version of ‘The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai’ for Amazon. But in between all of that, because he did a great job directing an awesome episode of ‘The Flash’ last season called ‘The Runaway Dinosaur’, he’ll be returning to the Arrowverse to helm another adventure featuring the Scarlet Speedster in season three. But in addition to that gig, Smith has also been tapped to work with the latest addition to the DC TV lineup on The CW.

Late last week during their Television Critics Association panel, The CW announced that Kevin Smith would be directing a season two episode of ‘Supergirl’. And on top of that, the episode that he’ll be handling has a special connection to the New Jersey native’s career. Smith talked a little bit about that on the latest episode of ‘Fatman on Batman’:

“Andrew Kreisberg told me that the name of the episode is ‘Supergirl Lives.’ I’m gonna cry talking about this. The name of the script I wrote back in 1996 was called ‘Superman Lives’. That’s what they do over at that fucking Berlanti-verse. They make magic. I might get to play with Superman. They added Superman this year. You know how fucking mind bending this is for me? I was never gonna direct that Superman movie, but I did write it back in the day. To be able to work on the show where it’s like ‘Go direct Superman.’ Come on, man. I owe Andrew Kreisberg the sloppiest fucking blowjob ever committed to a dick in history.”

‘Superman Lives’ is one of those infamous projects in Hollywood history that has become somewhat of a legend. The production was meant to star Nicholas Cage and be directed by Tim Burton, but it all fell apart for a number of reasons. The downfall of this version of the Man of Steel is chronicled in the documentary ‘The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?’, but for Smith, it looks like that story has a happy ending now that he’s able to work with the Girl of Steel (and possibly her famous cousin as played by Tyler Hoechlin).

Are you excited to see what Kevin Smith does with ‘Supergirl’? Do you think that it will be better than his episode of ‘The Flash’? And how cool would it be if he were able to do something with Superman after all these years? Share your thoughts and theories in the comments below.

‘Supergirl’ starring Melissa Benoist, Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan, David Harewood, and Calista Flockhart makes it’s CW debut on October 10, 2016.
