David F. Sandberg Shazam!

While we’ve seen plenty of DC Easter Eggs in Warner Bros. upcoming release of ‘Shazam!‘, director David F. Sandberg has shared one area that he was limited in. Just as in our world where superheroes are beloved by children and adults everywhere, it seems they are also beloved in a world with actual superheroes as well. Merchandising is everywhere in Billy Batson’s world and toys based on the heroes are out there, but it seems that only existing characters in the DC films were allowed to be included in the movie.

As Sandberg tells itm some DC toys weren’t allowed for a continuity reason:

“No, it was sort … No, they’re all sort of real DC toys that are in there. I mean, some were like, ‘Hey, you can’t have that character, because that character’s not in the universe yet. You have to stick to these characters.'”

It makes sense that only toys of existing characters could be used so far. While it would be a fun Easter Egg to include Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter among others, there just isn’t precedent to have the toymakers creating action figures of them at this time.

Do you feel that this call was good for continuity purposes or would you have liked to have a few extra Easter Eggs for the Eagle-Eyed fans who saw the toys on shelves? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still, a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

‘Shazam!’ will be flying into your local theater on April 5th, 2019!
