Michael Bay directed and executive produced all of the ‘Transformers’ movies and also executive produces the new ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ movies, including ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows’ which opens this weekend.  Both film series are based on classic 80s toys and cartoons that still have a devoted following today.  With all the movies crossing over these days– even the most unlikely, such as the upcoming ’21 Jump Street’/’Men In Black’ combo– it would seem a mashup of ‘TMNT’ and ‘Transformers’ would be a no-brainer and money in the bank.

But what are the odds?

‘Out of the Shadows’ producer Brad Fuller seems to dismiss the idea, feeling that the ‘Turtles’ have a fertile enough history to explore on their own, without the help of the giant hulking Robots In Disguise:

“It feels to me like we need to do a lot more work before we get to that stage. First, I would think we want to make, if we’re lucky enough to have another Turtle movie beyond this one, I don’t know why we would start doing a crossover until it felt like the storylines had been played out in the Turtle world. I feel like Kevin (Eastman) and Peter (Laird) have created so many amazing stories that we’re not even close to that. So I’m not even sure why I would want to do it at this point.”

Fuller mentions that there is some reference to the ‘Transformers’ in the new ‘Turtles’ movie, but pretty much shoots down the crossover suggestion:

“I will say that in this Turtle movie there is a tangential moment that the Transformers fans will enjoy. At this point, and I hate this, but at this point I can’t see any kind of crossover. There’s never been talk of that. We’re just trying to create an environment where people are eager to see more Turtles. If that happens, no one has mentioned it to me. And I don’t think anyone has ever mentioned it to Bay. I don’t know how that would happen.”

What do you think?  Would you like to see a crossover between the ‘Turtles’ and ‘Transformers’?  Or is this the stuff of fan art and no more?  Comment below!
