FX has released a new trailer for its upcoming comedy ‘What We Do in the Shadows’, based on the 2014 movie of the same name, directed by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi. Both serve as executive producers on the TV adaptation, with Clement also contributing to the writing and Waititi directing the pilot. The new series follows a trio of vampires dwelling together in Staten Island, New York. (The film was set in New Zealand.)
‘What We Do In The Shadows’ stars: Kayvan Novak as Nandor the Relentless, the self-appointed leader of this group, but is stuck in his Old World ways; Matt Berry as Laszlo, a British vampire that is described as “mischief-loving”; and Natasia Demetriou as the “seductive” Nadja; as well as Harvey Guillen as Nador’s familiar Guillermo, who dutifully serves his master, while yearning to be made a vampire himself. The recurring cast includes Beanie Feldstein as Jenna, a community college student who becomes friends with Nadja; and Mark Proksch as “constant lurker” Colin Robinson; as well as Jake McDorman, and Doug Jones.
After an unexpected visit from their dark lord and leader, Baron Afanas, the vampires are reminded of what they were initially tasked with upon their arrival in Staten Island more than 100 years ago: total and complete domination of the New World. But they’re not exactly sure how to achieve said domination.
In addition to Clement and Waititi, Scott Rudin, Paul Simms, Garrett Basch, and Eli Bush serve as executive producers.
Prior to the FX series, Clement and Waititi created the New Zealander series ‘Wellington Paranormal’, a TV program starring Mike Minogue and Karen O’Leary as two police officers who appeared in the film version of ‘What We Do in the Shadows’. Clement also served as a writer and director on that show, which has been renewed for a second season.
FX has announced that ‘What We Do in the Shadows’ will premiere on Wednesday, March 27 at 10 pm EST/9 om CST. The first season consists of 10 episodes.
