After over a year of production rumors, on set photos, and discussion amongst fans about whether or not they are happy with the all-female ‘Ghostbusters’ reboot, the first trailer for the updated classic has been released, and fans everywhere are divided about how they felt. Half thought the trailer was amazing and really showcased the humor and story of the new movie, while the other half felt the jokes were forced and the trailer seemed to drag on for almost three minutes. Luckily, the internet exists, which allows people to put their own spin on the trailer, which one fan happened to do masterfully. Bevan Bell took the new trailer and re-cut it himself, whittling down the long run-time to a solid 51 seconds, cutting the entire thing to the original ‘Ghostbustes’ song, tightening up the jokes, and leaving out a lot of the dead space from the original trailer. Watch it for yourself below:
Of course, Bell’s trailer is not the only fan re-cut, but his is the only one that seems to be getting real buzz, and much more appreciation than the original trailer. Some say it is because he cuts most of the dialogue and almost all of the jokes, which does not fair well for the actual movie the trailers are trying to promote, but then again, you never know. Oftentimes I have found that films with amazing trailers end up being kind of terrible, the editors having to work extra hard to ensure the trailer looks amazing to more or less trick audiences to go see a bad movie (prime example, every trailer for the ‘Star Wars’ prequels was amazing). So based on that, I tend to think that sometimes a bad trailer means the producers are confident enough in their film that they do not need to go out of their way to convince audiences that it is going to be amazing. Of course, if you disagree with that opinion, feel free to share your own in the comments below.
