Ghostbusters

The first trailer for the new ‘Ghostbusters’ film has finally arrived and all I can say is slime me intrigued.

When word first came out that the film would be a gender swapping reboot, many were skeptical but the footage does seem to show that this rendition may actually work. The trailer introduces the new Ghostbusters team which now includes Melissa McCarthy as Dr. Abby Yates, an expert in the paranormal, Kristen Wiig as Dr. Erin Gilbert, an expert in quantum physics, Kate McKinnon as Dr. Jillian Holtzman, a nuclear engineer and Leslie Jones as Patty Tolan who joins the team because she knows New York. Also starring in the film is Chris Hemsworth as Kevin the receptionist (a role that was played by Annie Potts in the original).

Thirty years after the original film took the world by storm, Ghostbusters is back and fully rebooted for a new generation. Director Paul Feig combines all the paranormal fighting elements that made the original franchise so beloved with a cast of new characters, played by the funniest actors working today. Get ready to watch them save the world this summer!

As a big fan of the original, I really want to be fully on board with this reboot but am staying hopefully optimistic for now. There are a lot of nostalgic elements going on and with Paul Feig (‘Bridesmaids,’ ‘The Heat’) as the director, you know the comedy aspect with be on point. The updated gadgets and the new Ecto-1 look cool and the return of Slimer brought a big smile. There will also be cameos from actors that were in the original film including Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Annie Potts, Ernie Hudson and Sigourney Weaver so that is definitely something to look forward to. No word yet if the Stay Puf Marshmallow Man will make an appearance.

Feig is still fine tuning the film, but for a first look, the trailer does a good job. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!

‘Ghostbusters’ will be busting into theaters on July 15, 2016.
