Fans were shocked when Disney fired James Gunn from Marvel Studios last year and Dave Bautista is still angry about it. He has previously stated that Gunn “wouldn’t hurt a soul” and that while the tweets were “gross … terrible jokes” that were meant for “shock value” at a time when Gunn was affiliated with Troma Entertainment that they were meant to be harmless and uttered in a world that is less politically correct as it is today. That doesn’t change the fact that Gunn was still fired and won’t be getting his job back with Marvel Studios.

Bautista knows that but also shares how he felt while defending his friend and co-worker, “It was draining. But if I’m not the guy who defends my friends, who am I?”

Draining it might have been but Dave hasn’t let up as his most recent outcry against Disney is that:

“But at the end of the day, the thing I know the most, is that they were jokes, and this harsh, rash decision to fire him empowered some horrible, horrible people.”

It isn’t clear what Bautista’s role in Marvel Studios will be going forward after ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and if he’ll survive to see ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘ or make it out of the endcap to that trilogy alive. What we do know is that taking a stand for his friend has yet to hurt his career as we’ve seen Bautista become attached to Denis Villeneuve’s epic reboot of ‘Dune‘ with rumors swirling that he may be attached to ‘Fantasy Island‘ and that Gunn could bring him into the mix for ‘Suicide Squad 2.’

Personally, I’m happy to see someone sticking up not only for their friend but for what they feel is right.

Are you glad to see that Dave Bautista is still defending his friend James Gunn or has the ship sailed at this point? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
