Remember when trading cards were a thing? I mean, I’m sure that in some circles they are, but there was a time where every kid had their own set of baseball, Magic, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, or comic book character cards. Well, J.J. Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy certainly remember that time as they’ve chosen to reveal a few character names from ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ with some digital trading cards reminiscent of the ones used to promote the original ‘Star Wars’ movie in 1977.

Entertainment Weekly exclusively debuted a series of cards made to look like the classic Topps collectibles that feature images from the recently released ‘Episode VII’ teaser trailer. Just like the vintage collector’s items, they include a short caption describing the scene and it’s there that we learn the names of characters played by John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, and Oscar Isaac, as well as the owner of the gnarly new lightsaber and the adorable ball droid. You can check them out below:

When asked to comment on this creative nod to the original trilogy, Abrams said, “I’m only sorry we couldn’t give everyone a stick of gum.” The filmmaker also said that there is significance to the numbering on each card, so start formulating your theories now, you scruffy-looking nerf-herders.

What do you think about the names of the newest inhabitants in a galaxy far, far away? Which cast members are you hoping to learn more about next? And do you think that J.J. Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy will release any more Topps-style trading cards for ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’? Let us know in the comment section.

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ starring John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker premieres on December 18, 2015.
