Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman 1984

A new image of a piece of licensing from ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ reveals that Gal Gadot’s Princess Diana will be upgrading her armor to battle The Cheetah and Maxwell Lord in the upcoming DC sequel.  Fans of the comics should recognize this new addition.

Below is the image of a ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ tee-shirt:

Why has this shirt already been revealed when ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ doesn’t come out until June?  It was originally scheduled to have opened on November 1 of this year, but last October, it was pushed back to June 5, 2020.  The first ‘Wonder Woman’ also opened in the summer and was a success, so it was decided to shift the sequel to a similar timeframe.  But it’s entirely possible that some merchandise was put into production to meet the original release date and… here it is.

Comic readers will recognize the helmet as part of the armor she first wore in the 1996 miniseries ‘Kingdom Come’, and was designed by the book’s illustrator Alex Ross.  She has since worn the golden eagle armor in subsequent comics.

Back on June 5, a new poster was revealed, showing Gal Gadot in a gleaming suit of golden armor.  While it doesn’t look exactly like the ‘Kingdom Come’ armor– it’s missing the skirt, and has an “under armor” bodysuit– there are definitely similarities.  Now, with the revelation that she will indeed sport the same helmet, it’s obvious that this is the cinematic take on the ‘KC’ look.

Now the question is, will she wear the wings?  The movie Wonder Woman can’t fly like the comic book hero, but she can leap great distances.  Will she need an aerial advantage against her new enemies?

With the gold leotard and textured fishnet-like leggings, the new movie armor also kinda reminds me of Madonna’s famous Jean-Paul Gaultier outfits from her 1990 ‘Blond Ambition Tour’.

Directed by Patty Jenkins, ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, and Kristen Wiig, and opens on June 5, 2020.
