After months of speculation and rumors, director Marc Webb finally confirmed that Academy Award-winning actor Jamie Foxx will indeed be playing the villainous role of ‘Electro’ in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’. This announcement, coming hot on the heels of the news that Dane DeHaan will be taking on the ‘Harry Osborn’ role, comes as no surprise as this information was all but officially confirmed weeks ago. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight while promoting his new film, “Django Unchained”, Foxx couldn’t seem to contain his glee with getting the part. “Electro is a great character!” Foxx exclaimed. “I met with the director, Marc Webb, I met with Andrew Garfield, and we talked. I think Electro will be an exciting character to play because he’s a… genius electrician-type person, and he gets the short end of the stick from the whole world, and the next thing you know he turns it on.”

While some fans are crying foul due to the race-change of the character from Caucasian to African-American, most seem to be embracing the change without hesitance. It seems likely that Foxx’s track-record of A-list films and the caliber of talent that he brings to each role he plays may have helped win a lot of people over.

So will Jamie Foxx amp up the voltage in this role, or will he leave audiences shocked with disappointment? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
