After much speculation over the last few weeks, Marc Webb’s sequel to ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ has found it’s Harry Osborn. A not-so-short list of actors named as possible choices for the role included Brady Corbet, Alden Ehrenreich, Dane DeHaan, Sam Claflin, Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth, and Boyd Holbrok, but in the end the ‘Chronicle’ star, DeHaan, won the part and will succeed James Franco as Peter Parker’s best friend and son of the Spider-Man greatest enemy, The Green Goblin.

Entertainment Weekly broke the news today the young actor who has recently appeared in ‘Lincoln’ and ‘Lawless’ will be joining stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and Shailene Woodley in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’, which will be written by the ‘Star Trek’ team of Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci and ‘Fringe’ writer Jeff Pinker. On Twitter, the director expressed his delight at having DeHaan as a part of his film by saying, “Dane is an exciting and extraordinary young actor and he is a fantastic addition to our cast.”

Previously, the actor stated in an interview that he would be “flattered and humbled to be a part of [‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’],” and now he’ll get his chance to show exactly what he can bring to the character once production gets rolling in 2013 in New York.

It’s also worth noting that I totally predicted that Dane DeHaan would fit the dark and gritty role of Harry Osborn in the upcoming film. Now, I’m not one to say, “I told you so,” but I am glad that the filmmakers decided to take my suggestion to heart. But what do you think of the casting choice? And with the younger Osborn locked in, could we see his father onscreen this time around as well? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ is scheduled to hit theaters in 3D on May 2, 2014.
