RUMOR ALERT/SPOILER WARNING: This article contains a RUMOR about ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ so take that with a grain of salt.  It may also be considered a SPOILER so be warned.

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ is already packed with mutant goodness.  In addition to the lead villain making his screen debut (played by Oscar Isaac), fans will see the returns of Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Professor X (James McAvoy), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Havok (Lucas Till) and Quicksilver (Evan Peters) as well as the introductions of new versions of Angel/Archangel (Ben Hardy), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Jubilee (Lana Condor) and Psylocke (Olivia Munn).

Let’s see… who’s missing?  Even with all these names, there is one glaring omission, a mainstay of the ‘X-Men’ films, perhaps the linchpin of them all, Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine.  Wolverine was the focal character in 2014’s ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’.  At the end of that movie, Mystique took his unconscious body into custody.  From the trailers, we’ve seen that Mystique plays a major role in this movie.  Will her plans for Wolverine come back into play?  (Both ‘Days’ and ‘Apocalypse’ are directed by the same person, Bryan Singer and both feature screenplays by Simon Kinberg.)

Of the team movies, ‘X-Men: First Class’ is the only one in which Wolverine didn’t play a major role, although he made a memorable cameo:

Word has it, Jackman shot a cameo that will be debuted at CinemaCon, a trade convention for movie theater owners and operators which runs from April 11-14 at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.

‘Apocalypse’ aside, Jackman’s next turn as Wolverine is in his upcoming solo movie in 2017, which Jackman has stated will be his last time in the role… unless they can write him into an upcoming ‘Deadpool’ sequel.  The director of ‘The Wolverine’, James Mangold is returning for the new ‘Wolverine’ movie, in which Patrick Stewart is said to appear as Professor Xavier.

Would you like to see a Jackman/Wolverine cameo in ‘Apocalypse’?

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ is due in theaters on April 27, 2016.  The untitled ‘Wolverine’ movie is slated to be released on March 3, 2017.
