Following the news that Ben Hardy lost out to Tye Sheridan for the role of young Scott Summers aka Cyclops, it was thought the man’s hopes of being part of the X-Men universe was over. Until now. It has recently been learned that Bryan Singer and crew saw something they liked during Hardy’s audition, and have cast him in a different role in the film, with sources claiming that “the part is significant to the X-Men Universe.”

Speculation so far is that Hardy will be playing a younger version of a character already seen in the films, just as we’ve already seen them cast young versions of Cyclops, Storm, Jean and Nightcrawler in this film, as well as the younger versions of Professor X, Magneto, Mystique and Beast in ‘X-Men: Origins.’ With the recent news that Daniel Cudmore is no longer playing Colossus in the X-Men films (with the character being recast for ‘Deadpool‘), some are guessing that Hardy might be playing a young Colossus, though that wouldn’t fit just right as Colossus was only a teenager during X2, and would not have been old enough in the 1980s when ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ takes place.

My guess as to his character? Angel, the winged original X-Man whose only appearance in the franchise so far was in the much-maligned ‘X-Men: The Last Stand,’ a film which was basically thrown out of continuity after the events of ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past.’ If you look at the picture of Angel from that film however, he does vaguely resemble Hardy, especially with the blonde hair, and Singer has yet to put his own spin on the Angel character, so that might be the direction he is going.

What do you think of Hardy’s addition to the cast? Do you have any theories on who he might be playing? Let us know in the comments below!
