With Hugh Jackman’s time as Wolverine coming to a close, I suppose it only makes sense for 20th Century Fox to recruit Patrick Stewart to be part of Jackman’s send-off film, as the pair have been the heart of the ‘X-Men’ franchise for some time, with their characters being the only ones to appear in every film of the franchise, although Stewart did not play Professor X in ‘X-Men: First Class.’ In a recent interview with Collider while promoting his new Starz series ‘Blunt Talk,’ Stewart himself confirmed his appearance in ‘The Wolverine 2,’ commenting on how the role will be more than just a cameo, and also on the rumors about the story being based on Mark Millar’s 2008 ‘Old Man Logan’ story arc. In his words:

“I think what you say is true. There is a project in development. I understand that Professor Xavier will be making more than an appearance, however, and that intrigues me…And the idea of an old Wolverine – I’m really looking forward to Hugh Jackman getting old. You know, damn him. He looks so great! So I’m hoping to see him covered in prosthetics, you know? And then he’ll make me look better if that’s the case.”

The story in question features a world where the United States has been conquered by supervillains, with Wolverine having basically retired to live a quiet life with his wife and kids. He is then approached by a blind Hawkeye who offers him a lucrative job, which Logan takes due to his family’s poverty, which jumpstarts the adventure for the older Wolverine. Jackman joked around during Comic Con that it might be part of the story for ‘The Wolverine 2,’ but Stewart’s comments on the subject definitely suggest it might be something that has been at least discussed by the filmmakers.

What is your opinion on having Professor X play a major role in ‘The Wolverine 2?’ If it is the ‘Old Man Logan’ story, how old would that make the Professor, who does not have Logan’s healing factor to slow down his aging? Let us know your thoughts below!
