In the latest ‘X-Men: Apocalypse‘ trailer we have more of a focus on Apocalypse and his Horsemen than anything we’ve seen so far. On Memorial Day this year, we’ll have to watch our favorite mutants save not only themselves but all of humankind from one of their own. Apocalypse is here and we see some great moments not only from Xavier’s students graduating into being full-fledged X-Men but also how much of a threat the first mutant actually is. As our villain proclaims “everything they’ve built will fall” we see the true destruction that comes from his mantra of “Only the strong will survive.” With the chaos he is intent on unleashing upon our world, it clearly shows that everyone will be tested. For all of our sake, let’s hope the X-Men have been studying!

You can check out the trailer here:

Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.

Not only is this the most we’ve seen on Apocalypse and his followers in a single area, but almost all of the X-Men get some screen time here as well. The budget being used here looks as if it could put the epic fights in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ to shame. As the bookend to this trilogy which will kick off the direction of future X-Men films, it seems only fitting that they’ve saved the best for last. The first time I saw an image of Oscar Isaac suited up for his part as Apocalypse to say that I wasn’t thrilled would be an understatement. Now that we’re seeing him in post-production, all of that has changed. It really looks like they’ve captured the character though I don’t think we’ll get the full effect until he is looming over everyone on the big screen.

The one trend that this does seem to be following every other comic blockbuster this year is the hero vs hero theme that is clearly the defining moments in ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and ‘Captain America: Civil War’. Sure, not all of Apocalypse’s horsemen are heroes yet in this timeline but we do know that Storm, Psylocke, Angel, and Magneto all become X-Men at one point or another.

The one thing I’m unsure on from this trailer is whose mutant power is it that fixes Xavier’s School For Gifted Youngsters after it’s destroyed in every movie.

What do you think of the latest trailer for ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’? Do you think that we’ll actually be in for a great take on the character based off of Oscar Isaac’s performance carrying it or still a bit miffed that some of the cosplay out there looks more accurate to what was on page?
