It was just announced that ‘Smallville’s Tom Welling would be taking part in The CW’s upcoming “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover, and now we have learned that his co-star Erica Durance will be joining him. Welling played Clark Kent on ‘Smallville’ for ten seasons, although he didn’t become Superman until the final minutes of the last episode. Durance joined as Lois Lane in a few episodes of Season Four before becoming a series regular in Season Five.
Welling will join Tyler Hoechlin, who will appear as the Superman/Clark Kent from the ‘Supergirl’ Earth. Elizabeth Tulloch plays that version of Lois Lane, and she is also confirmed as appearing in the crossover. Brandon Routh, who plays The Atom/Ray Palmer on ‘Legends of Tomorrow’, will also appear as the ‘Kingdom Come’ Superman, as a nod to his starring in the 2016 movie ‘Superman Returns’. Incidentally, Durance has recurred on ‘Supergirl’ as the Kryptonian mother of the title character, Alura Zor-El.
It wasn’t specified how many episodes Durance would appear in, but it will be “multiple.” Teri Hatcher, who preceded Durance as Lois Lane on ‘Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman’, also had a recurring role on ‘Supergirl’ as Mon-El’s mother, Rhea.
Executive producer Marc Guggenheim stated:
“For eight years, Arrow has stood on the shoulders of Smallville. Simply put, there would be no Arrow, and no Arrowverse, without it.”
“Crisis on Infinite Earths” will cross over between all of The CW’s DC shows, with even ‘Black Lightning‘ being factored in, although there won’t be an episode devoted to it. The event will span the winter hiatus, with three episodes airing in December and two in January. It will also play into the series finale of ‘Arrow’.
Are you excited that the stars of ‘Smallville’ are returning to their famous roles as part of the Arrowverse?
