After ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,’ it is hard to imagine that Matthew Broderick would ever be playing a high school principal but with the release of the first teaser trailer for ‘Daybreak,‘ that is precisely where we find ourselves. Of course, Glendale High School principal Michael Burr who Broderick plays also happens to be in charge of a school right as a full-on zombie apocalypse happens so it isn’t exactly like we’re seeing the actor fall into a role that mirrors his nemesis from the character he’ll always be most known for.
It looks like things start off leading up to a perfect Homecoming night, that is, until a nuclear blast ruins the world for the students at one particular high school.
Netflix describes the new series in this trailer as:
Navigating a post-apocalyptic world full of zombies and Mad Max-style gangs, a teenage outcast searches for his lost love in this humorous drama series.
However, a previous synopsis gave a couple more details sharing that we’ll be following a story “based on the graphic novel by Brian Ralph, the subversive dark comedy Daybreak finds 17-year-old high school outcast Josh searching for his missing girlfriend, Sam in post-apocalyptic Glendale, California. Joined by a ragtag group of misfits including a pyromaniac 12 year old Angelica and Josh’s former high school bully Wesley, now turned pacifist samurai, Josh tries to stay alive amongst the horde of Mad Max-style gangs (evil jocks, cheerleaders turned Amazon warriors), zombie-like creatures called Ghoulies, and everything else this brave new world throws at him.”

Honestly, the 1-minute runtime really doesn’t give us a proper feel for the series, but we’ve been seeing Netflix give us teasers like this precisely a week before a full trailer is released so I wouldn’t be surprised if we find out more about the series in the next week or two.
Joining Broderick will be:
- Krysta Rodriguez as the biology teacher
- Colin Ford as Josh Wheeler who is the hero of the story
- Sophie Simnett as Sam Dean who plays the most admired girl at the school
- Austin Crute who is apparently a samurai named Wesley Fists
- Alyvia Alyn Lind as the genius Angelica Green who will come off as unstable
- Cody Kearsley as Turbo Bro Jock that is the leader of the jocks and not who you’ll want to anger
- Jeanté Godlock is Mona Lisa who is Turbo Bro Jock’s right-hand woman
- Gregory Kasyan as Eli Cardashyan who we don’t know much about yet
This one is coming out just in time for Halloween as any show that features a nuclear apocalypse and zombie-like mutants should!
