After quite a few decades Matthew Broderick is returning to high school in Netflix‘s upcoming series ‘Daybreak.’ The actor is quite busy at the moment having just joined ‘The Connors’ as a love interest to Jackie and will also be working across from Pamela Anderson in FX’s Better Things.’
While you might be able to expect some Ferris Bueller shenanigans in the series, it won’t be coming from Broderick as his role will be in the administration in the film. Specifically, he’ll be playing Principal Burr who is described as “The cheerful, upbeat principal of Glendale High… Burr is genuinely trying to be part of the solution: a good guy, an advocate, and ally for all. But let’s face it, kids can be monsters.”
Since it sounds like he is going to be a good guy you may be wondering where the troublemakers are coming into the picture. That is quite easy to figure out by reading the description of the series which has it slated to be:
Based on the graphic novel by Brian Ralph, the subversive dark comedy Daybreak finds 17 year old high school outcast Josh searching for his missing girlfriend, Sam in post-apocalyptic Glendale, California. Joined by a ragtag group of misfits including a pyromaniac 12 year old Angelica and Josh’s former high school bully Wesley, now turned pacifist samurai, Josh tries to stay alive amongst the horde of Mad Max-style gangs (evil jocks, cheerleaders turned Amazon warriors), zombie-like creatures called Ghoulies, and everything else this brave new world throws at him.
In this end of the world high school comedy, it sounds like Broderick will be trying to keep things together in a world where half of his students are no longer entirely human.
Are you looking forward to the release of ‘Daybreak’? Do you find it entertaining that Broderick will not be playing a principal after the role we all know him the best for? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
