Is Brad Pitt a Trekkie?  Well, maybe not, but the ‘Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood’ actor and his co-star Margot Robbie enthusiastically declared that they would both appear in a ‘Star Trek’ movie directed by Quentin Tarantino.

When asked by JOE.ie about the possibility, Pitt exclaimed “Hells Yeah!” while Robbie stated:

“I would do anything, anything that Tarantino is doing.”

The pair quickly (and jokingly) clarified that they would star so long as they didn’t have to share any scenes after JOE.ie pointed out that the pair had now starred in two movies in which they didn’t appear on screen together– ‘Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood’ and ‘The Big Short’.

So honestly, it sounds more as if the actors are keen to work with Tarantino again, versus having a burning desire to be in a ‘Star Trek’ film.  Pitt previously starred in the director’s ‘Inglourious Basterds’, while this was Robbie’s first time.

‘Once Upon a Time…’ is Tarantino’s ninth movie, and he has declared that he will only make one more.  Somewhat separately, he has had talks with Paramount about directing a ‘Star Trek’ movie.  This followed him publically critiquing the most recent ‘Trek’ films which have not performed as well at the box office as Paramount had hoped.

While a Tarantino ‘Star Trek’ movie sounds great, if the auteur is forcing himself into retirement, is he really going to do so with a movie that’s part of a franchise he didn’t create?  Why wouldn’t he go out with an original story that’s 100% his?

Last month, Tarantino discussed that conundrum on the Reel Blend podcast:

“I guess I do have a loophole, [if] the idea was to throw a loophole into it. Which would be [to go], ‘Uhhh, I guess Star Trek doesn’t count. I can do Star Trek … but naturally, I would end on an original.’ But the idea of doing 10 isn’t to come up with a loophole. I actually think, if I was going to do Star Trek, I should commit to it. It’s my last movie. There should be nothing left-handed about it. I don’t know if I’m going to do that, but that might happen.”

There is so much buzz around this hypothetical ‘Star Trek’ movie, but in truth, it may never come to pass.  But until Tarantino officially announces his final film, we’ll keep following these developments.
