This fall, the ever-changing ‘American Horror Story’ turns its focus to 1980s slasher flicks like ‘Friday the 13th’ in ‘American Horror Story: 1984’, as a group of attractive young folks head off to the wilderness, where they find, sun, fun… and death! In the teaser clips that show creator Ryan Murphy released in early July, it appeared that the new season was going to take place at a sleepaway camp, but at least in this new trailer, it looks more like a group of older teens frolicking.
The previous clips were set to Dan Hartman’s R&B hit ‘I Can Dream About You’. The new one incorporates two more ’80s classics which mirror the tone of the series– ‘On The Dark Side’ by John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band (from the soundtrack to ‘Eddie and the Cruisers’) and ‘Suddenly Last Summer’ by The Motels.
The clip itself is grainy, like a recently discovered VHS tape from the time period, so it’s nearly impossible to make out the cast. But one figure is pretty easy to discern and that’s the knife-wielding maniac clinging to the bottom of the pickup truck. (It’s also hard to read the sign that they drive past, but it looks like it reads “Camp Redwood.”) But it looks like the slasher is just hitching a ride for the time being, and doesn’t strike until a bit later.

The cast of ‘American Horror Story: 1984’ is a mixture of favorites and newcomers. Emma Roberts, Cody Fern, Leslie Grossman, Billie Lourd, and John Carroll Lynch return, having starred on previous installments of ‘AHS’. Matthew Morrison (‘Glee’) and Angelica Ross (‘Pose’) have worked with Murphy on other hit shows. This season also welcomes newbies Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy, DeRon Horton (‘Dear White People’), and Zach Villa (‘Shameless’).
‘American Horror Story: 1984’ will slash its way back onto FX on Wednesday, September 18 at 10 pm EST.
