Love long and prosper with the knowledge that Michael Chabon will be the showrunner of the upcoming CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Picard‘ series! The writer has previously worked on ‘Short Treks‘ and was already set to write episodes for this new show.

Chabon previously stated that “Captain Picard is the hero we need right now. He exemplifies in some ways even more than James Kirk — and I’m not gonna get into the Kirk versus Picard argument because I love Captain Kirk, he was my first captain — but Picard is even more of an exemplar of everything that is best about Star Trek’s vision for the future.”

Alex Kurtzman who currently oversees the “Star Trek” franchise for CBS says of Chabon:

“Daring, lyrical, humane, whimsical, celebrated: words that describe both Jean-Luc Picard and the literary genius of Michael Chabon. Despite a laundry list of accomplishments most writers only dream of, Michael shines with the heart and soul of a Trekkie who’s finally found his dream job. We’re so fortunate to have him at the helm as we explore this next chapter in the great captain’s life.”

The idea of Patrick Stewart back as Jean-Luc Picard is enough reason to celebrate on its own. However, throwing Chabon into the mix as the showrunner is just thrilling. On his new position the newly minted showrunner shares:

“Star Trek has been an important part of my way of thinking about the world, the future, human nature, storytelling, and myself since I was ten years old. I come to work every day in a state of joy and awe at having been entrusted with the character and the world of Jean-Luc Picard, with this vibrant strand of the rich, intricate and complex tapestry that is Trek.’ “

I was already excited to see what they would be doing with Picard by bringing him back, and this just ramps up that feeling of excitement!
