Star Wars: Resistance

After ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars‘ and ‘Star Wars: Rebels’ it came as a surprise to discover that ‘Star Wars: Resistance’ was going to come to a close after only two seasons.

At a recent press junket executive producer Brandon Auman revealed that the real reason they are bringing the series to a close:

“We wanted it to feel like it was just a complete thing. Like so that we have a beginning and then it’s really kind of just going into Rise of Skywalker. We thought if it went another like season, it just felt kind of like ‘Oh the last movie we just ended, the sagas ended,’ so going one more year after just felt weird to us. With Clone Wars and Rebels, that stuff was like obviously created years after those movies. For us, it was like ‘Well, this just feels like a natural, organic [end]. Let’s just do this [season], and we’ll go right into [Rise of Skywalker].”

Executive producer Athena Portillo also shared that there were delays in production due to the story leading into ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.’ With major events from the movie surely being a gamechanger for ‘Star Wars: Resistance’ if they did continue, it would have put development into limbo until the film was released. They were already experiencing delays in the current season as is:

“We would be in pause mode and, as you know, if we’re working on several episodes, we’re working on several episodes at different phases. So if we’re waiting on something in animation, we’ll put that aside, and we’ll just get started on this while we wait to hear how they plan to end the saga and how would we want to incorporate that.”

The secrecy surrounding the upcoming film makes this not come as a surprise at all. Thankfully, with a final season coming of ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ coming, this means we won’t have to go too long without an ongoing animated “Star Wars” series.

Do you feel that this is a good reason for ‘Star Wars: Resistance’ to have come to an end, or would you have wanted a third season? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
