star trek: picard

“The end is only the beginning” for the first teaser trailer of ‘Star Trek: Picard’ and CBS All Access was right to call this one a teaser. While it clocks in at over a minute, this first look at the upcoming series which will bring back the iconic Jean-Luc from ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ tells us nothing about what is to come. Even so, I’m already sold on it in a way that ‘Star Trek: Discovery‘ hasn’t been able to do.

It might be the nostalgia speaking, but I just can’t wait for this to be released.

We quickly learn that the former Admiral has retired from Starfleet as a voiceover asks Picard “15 years ago today, you led us out of the darkness. You commanded the greatest rescue armada in history. Then, the unimaginable happened. What did that cost you? Your faith? Your faith in us? Your faith in yourself? Tell us, why did you leave Starfleet, Admiral?”

As he had been working with the Romulans in his last outing, one might expect this is related to the events of the ‘Star Trek’ reboot which saw the Romulan Empire decimated. This is a mystery that we’ll have to wait until closer for the series to be released to find out more about.

I do love that he is on his family’s vineyard at the start and hope CBS has made the right move actually to sell the wine shown here as a tie-in product.
